Day 28

Mobilize

SPONSORED BY NATRACARE

OVERVIEW

“Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world.” ~ Joel A. Barker, Futurist, Author, Lecturer, Film Maker

With each day of PGC, whether you know it or not YOU are changing the world in large ways and small, rethinking your own practices and in the process influencing everyone around you. It’s been an amazing journey for us as well, to watch you become informed, inspired and mobilized more deeply by the day! Today, we want you to feel the sheer satisfaction of knowing that YOU, your voice and your being are mighty powerful.

CHALLENGE

Green

20 POINTS

THINK

If everyone of us on this planet, in each aspect of life, lived with intention, things would look very different, as you have come to realize. And so today we are asking you to live with intention and mobilize in a very small way.

CHALLENGE

  • Please watch the video of the day called, Dear Future Generations here. It was magnificently crafted by Richard Williams aka Prince EA. He is described as a spoken word activist known for discussing topics like politics, sociality, environmentalism and life issues
  • Infused with passion that the video will most assuredly generate, and your newly honed ability to affect change, go out and do something. But it doesn’t have to be anything huge, it can be as simple as putting recycling in a recycling bin, biting into an organic apple – something that will make a tangible difference but won’t take up more than a moment of time. This will be your small act of kindness for our Mother Earth! Make it count!
  • Share your small act of kindness for Mother Earth on the social media platform of your choice. Tag @TurningGreenOrg, any other relevant organizations, and hashtag #PGC2016

DELIVERABLES

THINK

Have you had an idea floating around your head that you haven’t had much time to give thought to … but wish you could make happen?

CHALLENGE

Take a look at Susie’s story here. She created the world’s first organic cotton tampons and pads in 1989 after learning about the harmful effects of conventional sanitary protection on women’s health and the environment. From one woman’s stand against an industry that refuses to change, Natracare has become a world-leading brand of organic and natural personal care products.

At Turning Green, we do something called “Marathon Days” with our student leaders and staff. We create an outline of what we want to accomplish and then we have a certain amount of time to do so – no more and no less. All the best ideas come out because we are dreaming and doing under in a finite time span. Now, we want you to do the same!

  • Grab a couple of friends.
  • Set the timer on your phone for 30 minutes.

Throughout October, you have learned what a sustainable company/product entails. Can you think about any products today that don’t have a sustainable alternative? Could you come up with that alternative? Or maybe there is a product that you can make a significant improvement on?

In 30 minutes, brainstorm all the ideas that you can think of for a sustainable business or product. Be creative. Be innovative. Dream BIG.

Make a list and share it.

DELIVERABLES

Upload a PDF document presenting your ideas. Please include your name (or team name), username, email address, and school.

  • Draw the product so we can see what it looks like.
